It’s quite rare to get this much snow on the south coast. So when it does some along, I always try to make the most of the opportunity. Obviously, this time around we’re in a country that is in strict lockdown conditions, so I made sure to go for a walk with my camera in a place that was both quiet and scenic.
This walk also gave me the first proper opportunity to use my new camera, the Nikon DF. For those who don’t know, the DF basically combines the technology of a top of the line DSLR with the stylings of an old 35mm camera.
Obviously its a very cool looking camera, but the main reason I wanted this camera was because of the way you have to use it. I have gotten so used to my Nikon D750, and its easily accessible dials and abilities that it’s easy to snap away at an alarming rate, and before you realise it you’ve taken 30 photos when one would do.
My hopes with buying and using this camera is that it would force me to take more time, be more deliberate about my shots and the choices I was making, much in the same way I would when working with film. Immediately I was out of my comfort zone, and it took me a while to get to grips with working this way.
By the end of the walk, I had only taken a few photos, which is exactly what i was hoping for. I couldn’t be so trigger happy, and so I paid more attention to getting the shot right the first time. The camera is amazing, and I cant wait to take it out for more shoots once lockdown is over.
